A man has been charged with murder after Nassau police say a long-simmering feud between coworkers led to a deadly shooting at a Glen Head gas station.
Investigators say 71-year-old Lawrence Grammer, a mechanic, was arguing with his coworker at the Citgo Service Station on Glen Head Road shortly before 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
That's when Lawrence allegedly pulled out a gun and fatally shot the victim, who has been identified as 35-year-old Bashir Ward, of Valley Stream.
Police say Ward had worked at the station for less than a year, while Grammer worked there for 15 years. The two men did not get along the entire time they worked together, according to investigators, and had gotten into a fist fight the day prior to the shooting.
Police say Grammer is a convicted felon and a registered sex offender with a rape conviction on his record. According to investigators, the handgun used in Saturday's shooting was an illegal weapon.
Nassau police say it was a targeted attack and there is no danger to the Glen Head community.
Grammer was arraigned Sunday on a charge of second-degree murder. He was ordered held without bail.
