Taxpayers in seven Long Island school districts will cast school budget ballots Tuesday for the second time.
Even though voters turned down budgets in Hauppauge, Kings Park, Lindenhurst, Patchogue-Medford, Shelter Island, Shoreham-Wading River and Wantagh, some of the districts did not make any major changes the second time around.
Hauppauge, Lindenhurst and Patchogue-Medford are putting up budgets that are less than half a percent below the original budgets that failed. Wantagh cut nothing and is putting up the same budget again. The remaining districts cut spending between 1.35 and 3.6 percent.
Between high gas and food prices and taxes, many say they?ll vote ?no? again if the budgets call for tax increases.
If the budgets are defeated, extracurricular activities and class sizes are at stake. East Moriches also had its budget fail, but is going straight to a contingency budget.
