Officials responded to a building fire on East 155 Streetin the Melrose section of The Bronx Wednesday morning.

According to the FDNY, a call was received at 7 a.m. for a reported fire at 368 East 155thSt. between Courtlandt and Melrose avenues.

A total of 12 units with 60 fire and EMS personnel responded.

Jeanette Johnson said she lived in the building since 2020, and has dealt with multiple maintenance issues, some of that she believes were not properly fixed.

Johnson shared her dog Milo alerted her family about the fire, but they had issues trying to evacuate.

"We had to get out the fire escape in the back, and the fire escape was broke. So we couldn't get all the way down to the bottom. The flying glass was flying everywhere at us. The fire department had to break the ladder in the back to get us out," said Johnson.

News 12 called the property owner of the building but is still awaiting a response.

The FDNY says EMS treated and transported a total of seven patients, including one firefighter, to the hospital.

Their conditions are unknown.

"I'm just grateful we're safe. And I would like for the city management to do better with these buildings in placing people," shared Johnson.

The American Red Cross says it has registered four households, including five adults and eight children for emergency assistance, including temporary lodging and financial assistance.
