Nassau police say seven city teens have been arrested in a robbery scam that used Web ads for Porsches as bait.
Investigators say 17-year-old Agniesika Banach, of Queens, was the ringleader of the scheme that targeted prospective car buyers with fake ads. According to police, Banach posted ads on the Web site Craigslist that listed Porches well below the sticker price. They say the photos were copied from other sites.
A Pennsylvania couple took the bait and showed up to a location in Freeport to buy the car. Police say the group attacked the couple and took $4,000 from them. Another couple lured to Baldwin was also allegedly targeted, but police say the teens only made off with $50 in that case.
Police say the teens, all between 16 and 19 years old, have no substantial connection to Long Island. Banach was traced to her Queens home through her ISP address, according to police.
Police warn Long Islanders to be wary of online deals that seem too good to be true.
