A total of six Long Island companies have applied to become part of New York's medical marijuana program.
The companies are among 43 statewide that are hoping to secure a medical marijuana license from the state. However, the state is only expected to award licenses to five of them.
The Long Island candidates are North Shore LIJ, KannaLife Sciences of Lloyd Harbor, PalliaTech in Sea Cliff, Compassionate Care Center of New York in Carle Place, NePenthea LLC of Rocky Point and New York Growing Parters LLC in Woodbury.
The companies chosen will be announced later this summer.
