5 Long Island schools recognized on 2021 National Blue Ribbon Schools list
Five schools on Long Island are among the 325 recognized National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2021.
According to the Department of Education, the recognition is “based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.”
Commack High School, North Shore Senior High School, Jericho Senior High School, Sanford H. Calhoun High School and Robert M. Grable Jr. Mount Sinai High School were among the 19 schools from New York on this year’s list.
“I commend all our Blue Ribbon honorees for working to keep students healthy and safe while meeting their academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs,” said Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, in prepared remarks. “In the face of unprecedented circumstances, you found creative ways to engage, care for, protect, and teach our children. Blue Ribbon Schools have so much to offer and can serve as a model for other schools and communities so that we can truly build back better.”
