Officials say five people are recovering after a faulty extension cord sparked a fire at a Hempstead apartment building.

The fire started on the third floor of a building on Front Street in Hempstead around 8:15 last night.



Police say four people were treated for smoke inhalation and a firefighter was also taken to the hospital with heat exhaustion.



All five people are expected to be OK.
