Miller Place High School was placed on academic lockdown after the fourth bomb threat in two weeks Thursday.
A statement by the school?s superintendent was issued to students, parents and teachers saying that the students would not be permitted to leave school grounds during the school day until further notice. All privileges for seniors have been taken away and students must now be escorted to the rest rooms and the nurse?s office.
Some students believe the bomb threats are jokes being played by their peers to get out of class and cause distractions.
?We have bomb threats [almost] every other day and everyone's pretty fed up with it,? Larissa Polodori, a student, says.
A similar academic lockdown policy has been adopted at North Babylon High School, also as a result of multiple bomb threats.
The superintendent urges anyone with information to come forward and contact 1-800-418-6423 Ext. 359.
