Today marks the anniversary of a murder spree that inspired the Amityville Horror movies.
Forty years ago today Ronald DeFeo killed six members of his family as they slept in bed in their Amityville home.
Defeo was convicted of shooting his mother, father, two sisters and two brothers inside the infamous home on Ocean Avenue in 1974. DeFeo testified at his trial that "voices in the house" made him do it. DeFeo is serving six life sentences.
The Lutz family who rented the home for just 28 days after the murders moved out because they said the house was haunted.
