Suffolk police arrested four people Wednesday believed to be part of a cross-county illegal fireworks ring.
Authorities were led to the suspects by Nassau police. After making an arrest in Wantagh Tuesday, Nassau police were tipped off to the Suffolk suspects and passed on the information.
Two of the arrests were made in Central Islip and the others were made in Brentwood.
Police seized a box truck full of small grade illegal fireworks from a Central Islip home belonging to Robert Duke near Ridgewood Avenue and Church Drive. The street value of the stash has been estimated at $50,000.
According to police, orders for the illegal fireworks were given to drivers of Farmingdale's King Catering coffee trucks. The order would then allegedly be filled by James Rankin, the company's manager, and sent out the next day.
