Four people were arrested in a drug bust in Port Jefferson Station, and police say the suspects had a stash of heroin and cocaine in a home located near a middle school.
The four suspects are accused of running a drug trafficking operation out of a home on Jayne Boulevard, which is right across the street from John F. Kennedy Middle School and a playground.
Neighbors including Fernando Gomes say they were stunned when the Suffolk County Heroin Task Force raided the alleged drug den early Monday morning.
Prosecutors say the task force seized an unknown quantity of raw heroin, 100 grams of crack and 50 grams of powdered cocaine, in addition to drug-packaging supplies.
Most of the drugs were stored in boxes next to a bed belonging to a 2-year-old child who lived in the home, according to prosecutors.
Prosecutors also say the arrests came at the end of a monthslong investigation of heroin trafficking in the Town of Brookhaven.
All four defendants pleaded not guilty to a slew of drug charges during arraignment in Central Islip.
