For 300 employees at Fortunoff?s corporate headquarters in Uniondale, Friday was their last day at work.
Company officials say 300 of the 377 workers at the Uniondale location got their pink slips. Fortunoff was forced to file for bankruptcy last week. No one in the Westbury flagship store was affected by the layoffs.
Vice President of Public Relations Arlene Putterman was one of those laid off. She says she?s been with the company for 22 years.
"I've been the spokesperson for the company for all these years and right now I'm the spokesperson for all the associates who have given so many years of their life here,? Putterman says.
Putterman says those who were let go won?t get any severance pay and their health insurance runs out at midnight. She says some of those laid off are considering legal action. As of Feb. 1, a state measure known as WARN requires employers to provide 90 days' notice to workers affected by mass layoffs.
