A 3-year-old girl was found floating in her family's backyard pool Sunday. According to police, Chloe Pastillo-Marcinanis was discovered by her 11-year-old brother. Police say she was playing on the pool deck at her Princeton Avenue home in Hewlett when she fell in the water.
The girl?s father attempted to revive the child with CPR and called 911. The 3-year-old was taken to South Nassau Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m.
Pastillo-Marcinanis' death is the second on Long Island this season and has renewed calls for Suffolk's pool alarm legislation. Currently, state law mandates all new pools be equipped with an alarm. The Suffolk bill would require alarms for pools built before December of 2006, when the state law was passed.
Eric Siegel, owner of Pool Masters in Bellmore, says all pools should have alarms and gated fences around the perimeter. However, those precautions, Siegel says, do not replace the need for adult supervision.
