Three South Shore beaches in Suffolk County were filled to capacity Sunday as the steamy weather sent droves of people to the coast.
State park police said Sunday afternoon that the beach at Robert Moses State Park was filled to capacity. Would-be beachgoers reported on social media that they sat in traffic on the Robert Moses Causeway before being turned away.
The outer beaches at Cupsogue and Smith Point were also filled to capacity, parks officials said.
At Smith Point, fishermen were still being permitted access to the inlet.
