Three Lynbrook police officers were recognized with the 2022 NPC Meritorious Award for their work during an arrest last year.
Authorities say the incident began on May 3, 2022, when officer Hoffman spotted a motorcyclist with no license plate or helmet. Upon review, the officer found out that the motorcyclist had their license suspended 19 times.
The suspect resisted arrest, tried to flee and made an attempt to reach for a concealed handgun. Officer Scanlon dislodged the firearm and officer Lavista tased the suspect.
The suspect was ultimately secured by the three officers, according to authorities. A search also revealed that the suspect had a handgun with a loaded magazine, along with a bag containing methamphetamines.
