Two Nassau police officers are recovering after potentially coming into contact with fentanyl during a drug bust in Westbury.
Nassau police say David Lyons, Deron Barnes and Grace Lyons were sitting in a vehicle early Saturday morning in the parking lot of the AMC Loews theater in Westbury.
When officers approached the vehicle, they say they found an assortment of different drugs, including heroin, fentanyl and crack cocaine.
The encounter turned violent when officers attempted to arrest the suspects. Police say Barnes, a 36-year-old Freeport resident, fled on foot. He's accused of punching, kicking and elbowing officers as he was taken into custody.
Police say the fentanyl was so powerful that two officers felt faint and were rushed to a hospital for treatment.
The three suspects were arraigned Sunday on a long list of charges, including drug possession and resisting arrest.
