Years before the discovery of remains on Gilgo Beach sparked the investigation that ultimately led to the arrest of convicted serial killer Rex Heuermann, Joel Rifkin was the name that haunted Long Island.
Now, a piece of Rifkin's past has changed hands.
The former East Meadow home where Rifkin lived during his killing spree has sold for $670,000, months after hitting the market.
The expanded Cape at 1492 Garden St. was listed earlier this year and priced at $799,999 in June.

The four-bedroom home was marketed for its spacious layout, large corner lot and location within the East Meadow School District. But unlike most listings, its notorious past was impossible to ignore, garnering media attention once it hit the market.
As previously reported by News 12, Rifkin lived at the house with his mother and sister between 1989 and 1993.
During that time, he murdered and dismembered several women at the home, and their remains were hidden in spots around the property, according to Realtor.com.
Rifkin's killing came to an end on June 28, 1993, when a state trooper attempted to stop him for a missing license plate. He led police on a chase through Nassau County before ultimately being captured with the body of his final victim, Tiffany Bresciani, in the back of his truck.
Rifkin later admitted to killing 17 women, all sex workers from New York City and Long Island.
He has been serving a 203-year prison sentence since 1995.
