Westport police say stolen mail was found discarded in several neighborhoods across town.

Lt. Anthony Prezioso says open letters and packages from more than 25 homes were found.

Police say that residences on the south side of town were impacted, including residences on Hillspoint Road, Prospect Road, Greens Farms Road and the Compo Beach area.

“Not quite as common as what we have seen with folks that are fishing through blue postal mailboxes," Lt. Prezioso says. "This is not unprecedented, but it’s just something that is a little bit unusual, especially at a larger scale like this."

Police say they have a few leads on suspects. Authorities are notifying residents whose mail was affected.

Prezioso is encouraging people to not leave mail or packages in mailboxes overnight, as the thefts are believed to have occurred in the early morning/overnight hours.

Police are also asking people who live in the area to look at their Ring doorbell or security camera footage.

Anyone with information should contact Westport police.
