The family of Nelson Manuel Batista, a 48-year-old disabled Bridgeport man, is speaking out after Jorge Luis Ortiz was arrested and charged with his murder following a random road rage shooting on Park Avenue.
A critical breakthrough occurred when a witness's dashboard camera captured a portion of the violent encounter, allowing police to identify and track down the suspect.
Ortiz, who has a prior murder conviction, was taken into custody on a $5 million bond on the exact day of Batista's funeral.
Batista’s sister, Wisleidis Cruz, expressed immense relief and gratitude for the community's support, stating that the arrest brings a somber sense of justice and peace to their grieving family.
"It was a nightmare to watch that video, but we are so grateful it led to an arrest."
The family has started a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses, and they thanked the community for their outpouring of support.
