What started as a garden nursery in Freehold has grown into a destination offering food, shopping, wellness experiences and, of course, plenty of plants.
Calgo Gardens, located on Adelphia Road, describes itself as a second-generation nursery that has evolved into what its owners call a "wellness nursery."
Visitors can grab a coffee at Caffeinated Dragon, enjoy a meal at Tulip Tree Café, take part in wellness experiences through Sacred Roots, browse books at Bound for Adventure Bookstore, shop for artisan-made gifts in the Barn, or explore vintage treasures at Inn Vintage.
"We like to bring different artists together who are passionate about one certain thing and then combine with us to create a space on our campus in order for the customer to be able to come here and have a full experience," said Calgo Gardens President Drew Tiner.
The property also features a butterfly house where visitors can watch caterpillars transform into butterflies, along with workshops and special events designed to give guests new reasons to return.
Despite its expansion, Calgo Gardens remains a full-service garden center, helping customers select plants and even redesign landscapes.
"It feels like a place where people can congregate and be around like-minded people. Artists, people who want to express themselves in some sort of way," Tiner said.
Owners say their goal is to create more than a place to visit, but a destination people want to return to again and again.
