School safety officers' union tells News 12 a total of six guns have been recovered inside New York City Public Schools since the start of the school year in September.
The total comes after two guns were recovered just hours apart at two different public schools on Tuesday.
The first incident happened inside Eximius College Prep Academy at around 11:15 a.m. after a school safety officer learned a 15-year-old boy had a warrant for his arrest.
The teen was found with a 9-millimeter handgun and a magazine with more than 20 rounds.
Hours later at around 2:07 p.m. police responded to Brooklyn High School for Law and Technology after a 17-year-old boy was also found with a handgun.
Both teens were taken into custody. Police have not released their names as they are minors.
We’re told neither public school has metal detectors.
The Department of Education has not responded to New 12's request for a comment.
