Body found inside burnt car after neighbors report hearing explosion in Bridgeport

A body was found inside a burned car at the entrance to Elton Rogers Woodland Park on Frenchtown Road in Bridgeport Thursday, police say.
The department received numerous 911 calls just before 11 a.m. regarding a car on fire.
Neighbor Jillian Audette, a senior at nearby Sacred Heart University, said her roommate called to say she heard an explosion late Thursday morning.
"She said it sounded muffled but loud - and when I drove up moments later I saw a big fire," Audette said.
Audette told News 12 that neighbors initially were worried about someone being hurt.
“We were hoping that no one was harmed,” she said. “That’s really sad.”
While putting out the fire, Bridgeport firefighters found the body burned beyond recognition in the driver's seat.
Police say the vehicle was registered to an address in Trumbull. Individuals who live at that address were notified and interviewed by detectives.
Police say they have a tentative name of the person found. Bridgeport Police Detective Jeff Holtz said the medical examiner will be investigating the cause of death.
The Bridgeport Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire, along with Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Unit.
Police want to ensure the public that there is no danger to the public regarding this incident.
