The owner of the Palisades Center Mall is seeking approval to add 250,888 square feet to the mall’s existing 1,854,206 square feet of leasable space.

Owner BD Palisades Center Holdings LLC is hoping to do this by utilizing areas that were already part of the property but could not previously be used because of a local restriction.

Clarkstown voters lifted the decades-old restrictive covenant in November 2020, paving the way for the proposed expansion.

No additional construction to the mall's footprint would be needed.

However, the plan first requires amended site plan approval from the Clarkstown Planning Board.

The proposal is scheduled to come before the planning board for review Wednesday, Aug. 19.

According to application documents, 120,000 square feet would be from the third and fourth floors of the former Lord & Taylor store, as well as other space on the fourth floor of the mall. The rest is also "unoccupied and is distributed throughout the mall."

In application materials, the owners said they are seeking approval to “obtain additional tenants and reinvigorate the Palisades Center.”

Shoppers shared what they would like to see added to the mall.

Montvale, New Jersey resident Joan said she would like to see “more stores and more inventory in the stores.”

Andrea, of Yorktown, said she would like to see “sensory friendly things for children between the ages of 3 and 12.”

Layla, of Orangeburg, said, “I would like to add like a cool hangout spot where everyone gets together and makes new friends.”

News 12 reached out to the mall’s owner for comment and is waiting to hear back.
