Police are looking for the hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a man, injured a woman driver and damaged several cars in Hunts Point.
Investigators say the crash happened on Longwood Avenue and Bruckner Boulevard just before 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Police identified the victim as 51-year-old Angelo Camera.
Police were informed that a white BMW was traveling northbound on Bruckner Boulevard when it struck Camera, who was riding a bicycle.
The white BMW did not stop and kept traveling when it struck a Hyundai operated by a 38-year-old woman.
The collision caused the BMW to collide with two additional cars, an unoccupied Lexus and a Chevrolet. Both cars were parked along Bruckner Boulevard.
The Hyundai from the initial collision also crashed into an unoccupied and parked Volkswagen.
The operator of the white BMW fled the scene, leaving behind the vehicle.
EMS transported Camera and the woman to Lincoln Hospital, where Camera died.
The woman is expected to recover from her injuries, according to police.
Loved ones of Camera tell News 12 he was on his way home when the crash unfolded. His friends and family set up candles on Wednesday near the intersection where they say Camera was found, and EMS tried to perform lifesaving efforts.
One of his friends, Hamlet Martinez, says he saw Camera right before the accident and then received the call that his friend was in the hospital. Martinez is now asking the driver to turn themselves in, "They ought to be held responsible. There's consequences for speeding, and consequences for everything in life."
There are no arrests and an investigation is ongoing.
