A 20-year-old Kearny woman was killed and a Newark man was seriously injured in a crash on Interstate 280 in Harrison early Sunday, according to New Jersey State Police.

Troopers responded around 2:30 a.m. to I-280 west near milepost 15.2.

A preliminary investigation found that 24-year-old Dandy J. Quituizaca-Angama, of Newark, was driving a Honda with Adamaris Mishell Tipan Gonzalez, of Kearny, in the front passenger seat.

State police say Quituizaca-Angama lost control of the vehicle, ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a traffic sign support before hitting multiple trees.

Gonzalez suffered fatal injuries. Quituizaca-Angama suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital.
