A man has been arrested for a hit-and-run incident in Nassau County Wednesday afternoon.

According to detectives, a 2-year-old boy and his 28-year-old mother were struck by a vehicle after the child unexpectedly ran into the roadway.

Elvin Majano Diaz, 27, of Central Islip, who was operating a 1998 Peterbilt truck, left the scene without stopping, Nassau police say.

The collision happened around 4 p.m. near 416 Conklin Street in Farmingdale.

The toddler suffered an abrasion to his leg and the woman had hip and leg injuries, according to police.

Following a thorough investigation, the driver was located and arrested, while the truck was impounded for a brake and safety check.

Diaz will be charged with leaving the scene of an incident with injury when he is arraigned later this month.
