Heat Advisory and Air Quality Alert
A heat advisory is in effect through Friday for Fairfield, New Haven and southern Litchfield counties. The heat index (or feels-like temperature) will range from 95-100 degrees again on Friday. This advisory may be extended into Saturday.
A heat advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like 95 to 99 degrees for two or more consecutive days, or 100 to 104 degrees for any length of time.
An Air Quality Alert has been issued for southern Fairfield & New Haven Counties through 11 p.m. tonight and Friday from 11 a.m. - 11 p.m.
Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at an increased risk. Homes without air conditioning can be much hotter than the outside temperature.
Heading into Friday
Temperatures stay really warm and muggy heading into Friday morning. Watch for fog and poor visibility into the early morning hours, especially in areas that picked up a lot of rain. Temperatures start out in the 70s.
Afternoon temperatures will climb into the upper 80s to near 90, but it can feel up to 10 degrees hotter due to the humidity.
There is also a risk of storms again on Friday. More flash flooding is also likely in spots. Please take any advisories or warnings seriously. Use caution while driving and do NOT drive through flooded roads. Some thunderstorms may also have gusty winds.
The Weekend
Saturday will still be quite hot and very humid. There is a risk of thunderstorms later in the day. High temperatures will once again reach the upper 80s to near 90.
Sunday will be the better day and drier day. Expect wall-to-wall sunshine with temperatures in the upper 80s. It will still be very humid and make the heat index jump up to near 100 degrees in spots.
