A Perth Amboy man has been charged with attempted murder after authorities say he shot and wounded two people in a June 25 shooting in the city.

Jarvis McCloud, 46, was charged with crimes including attempted murder, the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office and Perth Amboy police said.

Police responded at about 10:51 p.m. June 25 to the parking lot of 178 Front St. after receiving reports of gunfire. Officers found two victims with gunshot wounds. One person had been shot in the neck, while the other suffered gunshot wounds to the leg and hand. Both were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for treatment.

Investigators identified McCloud as the suspected shooter and filed charges on June 28, authorities said. He was arrested Thursday in Philadelphia during a coordinated operation involving the U.S. Marshals Service.

McCloud is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center pending the outcome of a pretrial detention hearing. Authorities did not disclose a possible motive for the shooting.

McCloud was also charged with two counts of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
