A Ringwood man has been charged after a 2-year-old boy was hospitalized and tested positive for cocaine while the family was vacationing in Wildwood, authorities said.
The investigation began July 20 after the North Wildwood Fire Department responded to the area of 21st and New Jersey avenues for a report of a sick child. Authorities said Alexander T. Moles, 39, was driving the boy to the hospital because the child was having difficulty breathing. Emergency responders administered two doses of Narcan, and the child responded before being taken to Cooper University Hospital Cape Regional for further treatment. Preliminary blood tests were positive for cocaine, according to authorities.
A joint investigation by the Wildwood Police Department and the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office determined Moles had been vacationing at a residence in Wildwood when the child became ill.
Moles was arrested July 21 and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of prescription legend drugs.
He was initially taken to the Cape May County Correctional Facility but was released with conditions following a detention hearing Friday, authorities said.
