A Southampton man is accused of crashing a 35-foot cruise boat into a stone jetty in Sag Harbor Bay on Sunday, leaving two passengers seriously injured and then walking away while they were receiving medical treatment, according to state authorities.

Police say Peter Mangiameli, 57, was operating the vessel when it slammed into the jetty, causing significant damage to the boat and injuring two of the eight passengers on board.

Despite the impact, Mangiameli reportedly managed to navigate the damaged boat back to a nearby dock, where officers with the Sag Harbor Village Police Department responded.

Authorities allege that while injured passengers were being treated, Mangiameli left the scene.

Two passengers suffered serious injuries, including a broken rib, a fractured leg and a vertebrae fracture, according to state police.

Mangiameli faces charges, including reckless operation of a vessel at an unreasonable speed, failure to report an accident involving personal injury, failure to provide identification during a personal injury accident, two counts of assault, reckless endangerment and multiple violations of New York state navigation laws.

State police are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact investigators at 631-756-3300.
