A 21-year-old woman is recovering in the hospital after being shot in the leg in Melrose late Thursday.
Police responded to 654 Prospect Ave. just after 11 p.m. to a call of a shooting.
Investigators say the victim and her friends were walking southbound down Prospect Avenue when an unidentified man shot at the group from across the street.
The woman suffered a gunshot wound to her left leg and was transported to Lincoln Hospital. She is expected to make a full recovery.
Exclusive surveillance video shared with News 12 shows six people frantically running down Prospect Avenue moments after gunfire broke out.
The incident comes after a deadly shooting of Reyna Caceres, 23, in University Heights outside of a park on May 28.
On Friday morning, police put tape in front of several storefronts as officers searched for the gunman. They say he was last seen wearing all black.
Neighbors told News 12 they are not surprised by the gun violence in the area.
"It's kind of crazy...I drop my daughter off at school over here. I come through here every morning, and every morning there's something different. I'm not shocked," Jairo Rochez said.
The investigation is ongoing.
