Police are asking for help identifying a man who they say attempted to rape a woman in Prospect Park in early May.

According to the NYPD, the attack happened around 7 p.m. on May 8, when the sun was still up in a park that draws families and young children daily.

Investigators from the 78th Precinct say a 26‑year‑old woman was walking inside the park when a man came up from behind, wrapped his arms around her, exposed himself and tried to assault her. She was able to fight him off and the man ran away.

Police say she was not injured.

The suspect is described as a man with a medium complexion, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, and was last seen wearing a black T‑shirt, black shorts and a black baseball cap. Police say they do not know which direction he fled in after the attempted rape.

Police urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
