Half-hourly service is running between Penn Station and Jamaica in both directions on Friday afternoon.

Significant delays occurred after a fire erupted near Penn Station yesterday. Officials say crews are at the scene working on repairs.

Around 5:30 a.m., the MTA put out an alert that there will be extremely limited LIRR service into Penn Station after initially saying service would remain suspended throughout the morning rush.

According to officials, the fire happened yesterday before noon in the East River Tunnel that connects the Long Island Rail Road between Manhattan and Queens.

Firefighters were able to get it under control, but the damage was significant, forcing crews to work throughout the day yesterday, overnight and into this morning to try and get things back on track.

The MTA is encouraging all riders to check their train's status when they get to their station.
