A 5-year-old girl is recovering in the hospital after police sources say she was unintentionally grazed by a stray bullet in Longwood.

Investigators say the shooting happened just before 5:40 p.m. Wednesday near 1007 Southern Blvd. Officers responding to the scene found the young girl with a graze wound to her ear. EMS transported her to Harlem Hospital, where police say she is in stable condition and expected to recover.

"New York City is wicked, man-- stay inside this summer," one man said.

Police sources say the girl was not the intended target. Witnesses described hearing multiple gunshots before scrambling for cover as officers flooded the block.

The shooting comes just over a month after a 7-month-old baby was killed by a stray bullet while sitting in a stroller in Williamsburg, Brooklyn — adding to growing concerns from residents about gun violence involving innocent children.

As of Wednesday night, police said there was no description of the gunman. Investigators were seen reviewing NYPD surveillance cameras near the scene as they work to identify the shooter.
