The Hawthorne Fire Department says helmet camera footage first tested last year has become a valuable training and review tool, helping crews study emergency responses from a firefighter’s point of view.

Department officials said the camera has documented numerous incidents during the trial period and has allowed members to rewatch calls to identify mistakes and spot small details that may have otherwise gone unnoticed.

On Sunday, the department released a short segment of that footage to show the conditions first responders encounter when arriving at emergency scenes.
