Norwalk already has Wegman's, ShopRite, and Stew Leonard's, but could shoppers be getting yet another place to buy all of their groceries soon?
Rumors have swirled for years as to whether the Walmart on Main Ave. in Norwalk would turn into a Walmart Supercenter.
"Everybody's been talking about it," Salma Dulo says. "We're all really excited."
Discussions intensified on Friday, when Walmart announced it would be remodeling hundreds of stores across the country, including the one in Norwalk.
The city used to also have a Walmart on Connecticut Avenue, but it's now a Target.
"We had both and that was really helpful," Melissa Romano says, "but now everybody's been pushed to this one and it's not big enough."
About six months ago, Walmart bought the Main Ave. plaza for about $50 million.
One new business has moved in, but there's plenty of empty spaces next to Walmart like where the Paper Store, Staples and PETCO used to be.
In a statement, the company said it wouldn't be expanding the Main Avenue location to a supercenter at this time, but the plans it submitted to the city show the remodel will actually result in a 10% expansion of the current store.
Only time will tell if the location will turn into a Walmart Supercenter.
"It's always good to get more variety in your supermarkets if you can," Tim McPartland says.
