A new NYC Parks recreation center will be built in Walter Gladwin Park in Tremont.

The center will be a 40,000-square-foot facility on East Tremont Avenue that provides multiple amenities and recreation programming for people of all ages.

Amenities will include a gymnasium, cardio and strength training rooms, dance studios, and spaces for educational programs.

Parks Commissioner Tricia Shimamura says this is in an area of the Bronx that has never had these types of services.

"Right now, only 5% of the Bronx neighborhoods have access to recreation services. That will completely change with the state of the art facility," says Shimamura.

This center will have services for all ages and if you're under the age of 24 you can enjoy these services for free.

The NYC Department of Design and Construction is managing the project for NYC Parks using its Design and Construction Excellence Program.

Construction is set to start this summer and is predicted to end summer of 2029.
