Displaced residents in Mount Vernon are still searching for answers after a burst pipe flooded a newly built apartment building at 625 MacQuesten Pkwy. last week. Inside the building, remediation crews are now at work, cutting and drying water-damaged walls as repairs get underway.

For residents like Patrick K., the physical cleanup is only part of the challenge. He says the emotional and financial stress of suddenly needing to find a new place to live has taken a toll. Several tenants were told they must vacate their apartments so crews can continue repairs, forcing families to scramble for temporary housing while juggling work and daily responsibilities.

As crews went door to door seeking access to apartments, some residents posted signs asking for privacy. Meanwhile, the City of Mount Vernon released a statement saying it has requested a tenant list from the landlord to conduct wellness checks and assess additional needs, but that information has not yet been provided.

Repairs are moving forward, but for residents facing displacement, uncertainty remains.
