New York state law enforcement unions to form Public Safety Alliance

Law enforcement unions from across New York state will come together to form a historic Public Safety Alliance.
Officials say the mission is to “protect the men and women who protect our communities and to ensure that public safety remains a non-negotiable, nonpartisan priority at every level of government.”
President of the Suffolk County Police Benevolent Association Louis Civello says current laws often make their jobs harder and more dangerous.
He says one of the goals is for law enforcement to endorse candidates during the next elections including candidates for governor, senate and the state assembly.
“As police officers, you don't want to be involved in politics, but you are involved in politics,” Civello said. “Because the decisions that those politicians and elected officials make, they have an incredible effect on how you do your job.”
The Public Safety Alliance will be campaigning and educating the public about candidate policies.
More than 180 unions are invited to the first roundtable on Jan. 22.
