There is an update on a sewer main break that happened more than a year ago in Hartsdale.

The sewer main break happened on East Hartsdale Avenue in May 2024.

"This has been a mess, they have a problem here they need to fix," says Anthony Colavito, who works in the area.

Town leaders tell News 12 they have been working to get it fixed, but they say that's a complicated process.

"This is a 90-year-old pipe, 35 feet under a 60-year-old building. We have to make sure when we do the work, it's done correctly. We don't want to do the work and cause structural damages," says Town of Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner.

Feiner says they're getting close.

"The consultant, he is almost done with the design. Then it goes to the county board of health, they have to review it. Then we go to bid. We are hopeful that the work will start sometime in the spring or at the latest, early summer," Feiner explains to News 12.

Feiner says the work itself is anticipated to take about seven months.

In the meantime, he says they've tried to minimize the work area around the sewer main break to keep it accessible for people who live and work nearby.

"They've done a lot of work on Hartsdale Avenue and it's a lot better," says Hartsdale resident Stuart Moskowitz.

A town board work session is scheduled for January 13 with the consultant for this project. Residents are encouraged to send any questions. You can find those details here.
