A new mayor was sworn in during an inauguration ceremony at Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport.
Logan, an Amazon River turtle, was honored as the zoo’s newly elected mayor and added to its Cabinet of Creatures list for 2026.
The zoo says this has become a fun tradition, but there is a message behind it. “Logan's from the Amazon and the Amazon is an imperiled habitat. So learning more about Logan and learning more about the habitat is so important to his survival. It is important for people to understand,” says Jim Wharton, Beardsley Zoo CEO.
Logan is the sixth animal to be elected mayor of the zoo.
