A Freeport man seriously injured another man in a car crash outside the Merrick post office.

Police say Jeffrey Butt, 45, was driving under the influence of drugs when he struck a 50-year-old man with his car at 10:40 a.m. Friday.

Butt then crashed his car into a parked USPS truck.

Police say the 50-year-old man was taken to a hospital in stable condition. They say Butt was found to be in possession of a substance believed to be cocaine and pills believed to be oxycodone.

Butt is facing a slew of charges, including driving while ability impaired by drugs and vehicular assault.

News 12 asked the USPS if the victim is a postal worker. The postal service would only say that the incident is under investigation.
