Parts of Merrick Road in the Village of Amityville are cracking and shifting.

The roadway now requires immediate attention, according to the NYS Department of Transportation.

Engineers recently found an unusual unsettlement of the surface near the culvert that carries Amityville Creek beneath the roadway.

Traffic will be reduced to a single lane, with alternating flows of traffic controlled by flaggers until further notice.

No word right now on when the repairs will be done.
