Montauk Shark Lab brings the wonders of the ocean to the public

Montauk Shark Lab opened to the public in June and has already welcomed hundreds of visitors who have explored its touch tanks and various sea creatures.
Dr. Craig O’Connell runs the lab.
He said while it looks like a really small space, there are many activities.
“You can come and see our chain cat sharks. You can see some of the eggs that these chain cat sharks laid. You can look through the microscope and look at shark skin. You can see seahorses. You can touch really slimy American eels. You can see our coral cat sharks, our Atlantic stingrays, and you can even visit our dock pets, which are these really incredible striped bass," he said.
There’s also a male seahorse expected to give birth very soon up to 2,000 babies.
The lab is the home base for O’Seas Conservation Foundation, a nonprofit. It conducts shark conservation research and work to educate the public.
There is a suggested donation of $5 for visiting the lab. That money goes to shark research.
The lab is located on E. Lake Drive in Montauk at Montauk Anglers Club, which has partnered with the lab and provided them with the space.
