Authorities say a quiet residential street in Medford was the unlikely setting of a massive and illegal firearms operation — one that has now resulted in what prosecutors are calling the largest ghost gun seizure in Suffolk County history.

Daniel Probeck, of Medford, is accused of running a large-scale gun manufacturing and trafficking business out of his residence on Waverly Avenue.

According to Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney, Probeck had been producing so-called "ghost guns" — untraceable firearms with no serial numbers — using 3D printers and specialized gun-building machinery.

A raid on the home resulted in the seizure of more than 112 illegal firearms, 67 suppressors, ammunition and 12 3D printers. Prosecutors say Probeck allegedly sold four illegal weapons, including three assault rifles, to an undercover police officer as part of the investigation.

The bust has shocked the neighborhood, which is known for being quiet and family-friendly.

Probeck was arraigned in court and is facing multiple charges related to the criminal sale and possession of firearms.

A judge set his bail at $500,000 cash.

If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison.
