Teens received free cardiac screenings in honor of late Bohemia student Liam Regensburg over the weekend.

The Connetquot High School junior unexpectedly passed in his sleep from sudden cardiac arrest in 2012.

His parents founded the Liam Regensburg Memorial Foundation to offer screenings to other young people within their community.

“We wanted to make sure that we were setting up something that would prevent other families from going through what we went through,” said Luann Regensburg.

Liam’s parents say 15% of students in the last seven years of screenings required further cardiac evaluation and follow up.

The Mayo Clinic says sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in young athletes.
