Two more raccoons found in Islip have tested positive for rabies, according to the Suffolk County Department of Health Services.

Health officials said one dead raccoon was found on a street in Bay Shore, while another was found dead on a street in Islip earlier this month.

The department does not believe there was any human exposure.

Members of the Islip Animal Shelter picked up the raccoons for the Health Department so they could be sent for rabies testing.

Officials were notified of the positive test results Wednesday.

The agency said the cases mark the 38th and 39th confirmed terrestrial rabies cases in Suffolk County since Feb. 7, 2025.

Rabies is a deadly disease that attacks the central nervous system and is commonly found in wild animals.

Health officials urge residents not to touch, handle or move wild animals.
