The Town of Oyster Bay is recognizing a Hicksville High School wrestling star who brought home a national title.
High school junior Haley Gonzalez won the USA Wrestling 16-U Women's National Championship in Fargo, North Dakoka.
It is considered the toughest wrestling tournament in the country.
"This year I really trained every day, and I did everything I could to make sure that I would be ready for the tournament,” she said.
It is also the first national title for a Hicksville wrestler, male or female.
The number of girls wrestling teams in the country has quadrupled over the past decade, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations.
