New LGBT initiative seeks better health care access and services

More than a third of LGBT people on Long Island say they have had poor experiences with health care services, according to the CEO of the LGBT Network.

That’s why the group has started a new health access initiative, in the hope of increasing access and improving services for LGBT individuals by holding education programs.

More than 30 health care groups were represented at Wednesday’s session, the first of several the LGBT Network plans to hold this year.

They also say it’s important that LGBT people feel their doctor’s office is a safe space, and that they can be themselves, so they can seek the best medical care in a comfortable environment.
