Police say a Staten Island man has been arrested for scamming an elderly person in Elmont.

According to Detectives, a 77-year-old was inside his Elmont residence using his computer when he received a prompt to call a phone number.

The man called and spoke to an unknown male claiming to work for the Federal Reserve, police say. The subject instructed the victim that he needed to withdraw all of his money from his bank account pending an investigation.

Police say the victim withdrew a total of $47,000 in cash and two unknown male subjects picked it up.

The victim received numerous phone calls from different numbers following up with him which caused him to believe it was a scam and called 911.

On Thursday, the male victim received additional phone calls from the same male requesting an additional $10,000 in cash and stated a representative would come to his home to pick up the money.

The investigation resulted in the arrest of Lin Qiu. He is being charged with attempted grand Larceny and grand larceny.
